Welcome to Prayer Month News!

Hello!  Thanks for joining us at North Ridge this prayer month.  It is our hope that you will pray regularly in your personal time and build habits that will change your life and the life of our community forever.  We also have a ton of resources and outlets for you to pray with our community this month.  This blog will serve as a place for you to learn about those things.

Those who are using the book "Draw the Circle" as a prayer devotional are working on establishing a routine that will make their lives anything but routine.  That's what it's all about right?  God has given us access to participating in the work of his kingdom through prayer.  When we pray regularly; when we establish a routine for prayer in our life we are given power and blessings that are exciting and awesome.

So what does your routine look like?  Do you have a place that you like to pray?  Do you have any prayer mantras or prayers that you pray all the time?  What are some of your favorite prayer resources?  Share with us in the comments!

  1. Draw the Circle Day 3:
"Consecration is death to self. I know there is a fear that if we give more of ourselves to God, there will be less of us left, but it's the exact opposite."

There is no greater reality of this than the struggle to invest quality and quantity of time in prayer. As I reflected on this today I was reminded that one of the reasons I struggle with making quality time to pray is the busyness of my life. I don't have time to pray because I have things to do... things that I have made more important than knowing God in and through prayer. This reminds me of the famous quote by Martin Luther, “I have so much to do that I shall spend the first three hours in prayer.”

What if the first step in consecrating ourselves to God is being content to sit in His presence to listen for and respond to his voice, not for what we can get from Him but just simply to know him more?

    What do you think?

  2. As I sit here and reflect, I am overwhelmed with joy just thinking about what God has done and provided to me and my family. My prayer today was a prayer of thankfulness.

I have a question for all the parents out there. I would like to see my daughter's journey with God grow/mature through prayer. Besides the standard "pray in the morning, at dinner and at bedtime" what are some other successful techniques, ideas or thoughts on helping my child connect with God through prayer?

    1. One thing you can try is writing out prayers on note cards and then attaching them to appropriate places in your house. Attach a prayer to the door that is something about asking God to help you go out into the world to be a light to God's people. Attach one to the bathroom mirror that is a prayer about being content in His love for you. Attach one to the refrigerator that thanks God for the way he sustains you and feeds you. It's about forming the habit of praying everywhere. When you see the prayer, pray it. The whole family can get involved.

    2. I think that is a great idea! Also I think a prayer journal would be great for kids. You could go on a special shopping trip together to pick one out. Or buy a plain one and decorate it together.
